New to Who?

Hello fellow Whovians!

If you read the "About Whotastic" post on this blog, you will recall that I said, "This site is for introducing people to one of the oldest and coolest British TV shows.".  Maybe you've never  heard of Doctor Who or your curious about it and just don't know where to start.  Well, look no further, because in this post I'm going to cover, what Doctor Who all about, what to expect, and where to start.

What That Heck Is Doctor Who All About Anyway??

I will try to be as brief as possible.  Doctor Who is about a thousand year old, time traveling, alien who's time machine is a police box called the Tardis.  Yes, the Doctor looks like a human, (but he says we look like Time Lords) but he has two hearts and can regenerate.  What is regeneration?  If The Doctor get fatally hurt, instead of dying he gets a new body.  Outside he'll look totally different, but inside it's still the same alien; but this usually throws companions for a loop.  What are companions?  Usually, a companion is a lucky human that tags along with the Doctor and shares his adventures.  They travel around and get into loads of trouble while saving plenty of universes.  The show's plot twists will keep you hooked and guessing!

Where Do I Start?
This is where it gets tricky, you could go back all the way to the first Doctor, (his show was made in 1963) but that's not what I suggest for obvious reasons (one being it's in black and white and kinda cheesy).  So here are some realistic starting points:
9th Doctor:  He has one season and is the official starting point for the modern series. The only problem is that there isn't much plot.
10th Doctor: David Tennant is the best actor I have ever seen!  This Doctor is definitely worth watching, but his plot lines are also a bit shallow sometimes, but you will need knowledge about his adventures to appreciate the 11th's.
11th Doctor:  Fantastic adventures and intricate plots, what's not to like??  You really need to at least see some of the 10th Doctor's seasons to really appreciate how Stephan Moffat has plotted it all.  I promise you, you won't regret it!

What to Expect When You Start Watching Doctor Who:

1. Confusion, don't worry, this is perfectly normal.  It takes an episode to get used to it all, just keep watching.
2. You can NEVER watch just one episode. Unless your parents send you to bed, you have to rush off to school/work, or have anything else that drags you away from you TV; I'm sorry but you will never watch just one.  This too is perfectly normal.

3.You'll Be Helplessly and Hopelessly Addicted!  Me and my family watched Doctor Who almost every night, from season 1 to season 7.  It was a tragedy if we didn't. Seriously, I think I cried once.
4. Fan Stuff. Did I mention that you will want Tardis Hats for Christmas and practically sob with relief when you get it?  True story.

5. Laughs, Tears, and Squeals. This is the best part people!!

I hope I've answer some of your questions!  If you have more just leave a comment or email me at whotastic15@gmail.com and I will happily answer them!

New Companion???

A few weeks ago, it was announced that there would be a new character starring in Doctor Who:

Danny Pink-

Played by Samuel Anderson, Danny is said to be a fellow teacher with Clara.
What do you think? Frankly, I believe he will be a lot like Mickey Smith from Season 1 and 2. I have seen a lot of theories as to what he will be like:

-Spy for the Daleks
-Spy for Torchwood
-Spy for Ian Chesterton (of classic who)
-He is an alien
Does anybody trust this guy?

There are even more theories!

-He's another reincarnation of River Song
-He's not even a part of the plot
-He's not a companion

Obviously some very interesting thoughts on the new character.

I ask again, what is your opinion? Comment below with any thoughts you may have, even if they are outlandish (hey, that's what steven moffat is!)

What would you be like if that happened to you?
Where would you love to see the Doctor go Season 8?
What do you think the Doctor's new catch phrase is going to be?

You can email you ideas to whotastic15@gmail.com and I'll put them in a predictions post.  Let's see what you all come up with!
